On May 11, 2023, nine schoolchildren from Fanaa, a suburb of Bortianor in the Ga South Municipality of the Greater Accra Region, perished when the canoe carrying them across an estuary capsized.
The unfortunate event, which occurred at approximately 5:00 p.m., has left the entire community in a state of shock and mourning.
Thursday morning, Ga South Municipal Chief Executive Joseph Yarni Stephen led National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) officers to bolster the search team, resulting in the recovery of the ninth corpse.
Weija Gbawe Municipal Chief Executive Patrick Kumor and Weija Police Commander ACP Freeman Kumashie were also present.
