The officer was purportedly shot by one of his senior colleagues in the Western North regional police command, causing his untimely death.
A senior officer of the Ghana Police Service has been arrested for allegedly murdering his subordinate, Constable David Gbati, in the Western North Region following an altercation between the two.
"The Constable met an untimely end when he was allegedly shot by one of his senior colleagues of the Western North Regional Police Command as they returned from an operation last night," a police statement issued on Saturday, May 6 stated.
"The victim was rushed to the hospital for treatment, but he was pronounced dead upon arrival," the statement continued.
The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), George Akuffo Dampare, has despatched a team from Accra to "assess the situation and interact with the personnel," according to the statement.

INVESTIGATING THE DEATH OF A POLICE CONSTABLE IN THE WESTERN NORTH AREA 1. The police have begun investigating the circumstances surrounding the demise of a police officer in the Western North Region on May 5, 2023.
Last night, while returning from an operation, one of the officer's senior colleagues from the Western North Regional Police Command allegedly shot him, causing his untimely death. The victim was rushed to the hospital for medical treatment, but he was declared deceased upon arrival.
3. Upon the occurrence of the incident, the Inspector-General of Police dispatched a team that departed Accra last night and arrived in the Region early this morning in order to assess the situation and interact with personnel. Commissioner of Police Mrs. Habiba Twumasi Sarpong, Director-General/Welfare, headed the team.
4. This morning, the Inspector-General of Police dispatched another team of Police Management Board members, led by Commissioner of Police Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno, Director-General/Administration, to visit the family of the deceased, formally inform them of his death, express condolences, and assure them of a thorough investigation into the incident.
A police clinical psychologist has been assigned to assist the family during this trying time. Another team of clinical psychologists has been sent to the Western Regional Police Command to offer psychosocial support to the Command's personnel in the wake of our colleague's tragic death.
In the meantime, the suspect police officer is being held in custody as part of the lawful investigation procedure.
