Mr. Boakye Agyarko, a presidential candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has stated that the presidential primaries will be peaceful if the party guarantees the conduct of fair elections.
According to the former energy minister, all election participants must have a clear understanding of the rules of engagement.
After submitting his nomination papers at the party's headquarters on Monday, June 19th, he stated, "It is crucial that everyone adhere to the rules and regulations."
"Without sounding like a fly in a container, there have been numerous provocations and rule violations for which no punishments have been imposed. I have even brought it up with the national council."
"As long as the criteria are clear, as long as there is complete fairness, and as long as we are all measured, I believe we would have a very peaceful competition. But please do not stand apart from the overall process," he pleaded.
Five candidates have submitted their applications thus far.
They are Alan Kyerematen, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto, Boakye Agyarko and Dr Kofi Konadu Apraku.
The NPP intends to conduct a Special Delegates Congress on August 26, 2023, in order to select the top five presidential candidates.
On December 4, 2023, the top five candidates will compete for the party's presidential nomination and leadership in the 2024 general election.
