Prof Gyampo Advices Kwabena Duffuor Junior

A Senior Lecturer in the Political Science Department at the University of Ghana has requested that Dr. Kwabena Duffuor Jnr communicate with his father about his actions in the lead-up to the National Democratic Congress' presidential primaries.

Prof. Ransford Gyampo stated that certain decisions made by the former Minister of Finance, Dr. Kwabena Duffuor, could cost his son, Dr. Kwabenya Duffuor Jr., his political fortunes.

Due to this, the outspoken professor has advised Dr. Duffuor Jr., who is also competing in the NDC's parliamentary primary for Sekyere Afram Plains, to advise his father as soon as possible.

According to him, his political future could suffer a significant setback if his father does not moderate his behavior toward the party prior to the primaries.

"Kwabena Duffuor Jnr must boldly and promptly warn Kwabena Duffuor not to be pushed or sponsored to sabotage Kwabena Duffuor Jnr's political future in the NDC through such needless mischief.

"A good father must seek a better future for his son," he wrote Wednesday on Facebook.

Dr. Duffuor, a candidate for the party's presidential nomination, has filed a lawsuit against the party in response to what he claims are discrepancies in the party's voter register that will be used for the election.

In a writ filed with a High Court in Accra, Dr. Duffuor alleged that the party did not provide the requisite photo album register five weeks prior to the elections, as required by the party's rules.

He stated that his team received a partial photo album register on May 4, a few days before the election, as opposed to March, when they had requested one.

"The Plaintiff adds that to their utter astonishment, upon verification, it was discovered that the number of constituencies on the hard drive provided to his representatives was 220 as opposed to the alleged number of 228 constituencies indicated by the defendant," he stated.

"The plaintiff adds that a preliminary verification of the 220 constituencies on the hard drive provided to his representatives by the second defendant revealed fundamental errors and inaccuracies that render the Photo Album Register inaccurate and unreliable for a free, fair, and credible election."

Dr. Duffuor added that the party has disregarded his request for a postponement of the elections until a complete photo album register is obtained.

Consequently, he is requesting that the court grant an interlocutory injunction prohibiting the party and accused individuals – General Secretary, Election Director, co-contestants John Mahama and Kojo Bonsu, and the Electoral Commission – from holding the May 13 elections.

Among other things, this, according to Professor Gyampo, could cost Dr. Duffuor Jr. his political fortune if it is not prevented.
