Reason We Withdrew Our Election Petition From Court - Dr. Duffour's Campaign Team

Dr. Kwabena Duffuor's campaign team for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) explained why they retracted their lawsuit against the party's internal elections scheduled for Saturday, May 13.

According to Duffuor's faction, the lawsuit was dropped after the NDC's Council of Elders provided assurances that earlier concerns would be addressed.

The team reports that Dr. Duffuor remains committed to ensuring that the NDC enters its primaries with a credible voter list.

In an interview , Antonio Edem Asinyo, a spokesman for Dr. Duffuor, stated, "As you are aware, since the lawsuit was filed, several stakeholders have engaged Dr. Duffuor, and an assurance was given that some Council of Elders will engage him in order to resolve the concerns regarding the photo album. In light of this, Dr. Duffuor has decided to withdraw the case so that we can resolve the matter internally. However, he is committed to ensuring that the NDC's election album is credible. We trust that the issues raised will be resolved," he said.

He added that they resorted to court because "multiple letters sent to the party expressing our concerns were disregarded." He depleted all internal structures, indicating that someone slept on the job. Dr. Duffuor is not a malicious individual; he is an accomplished individual who cannot be overlooked.

Wednesday, the Electoral Commission suspended its supervision of the May 13 NDC primaries due to Dr. Duffour's team's application for an injunction, which was originally scheduled to be considered on Monday, May 15.

In his petition, Dr. Duffuor cited concerns about alleged discrepancies in the party's electoral roll, among others, which justified his action.

However, the former Minister of Finance withdrew his petition on Friday in order to resolve the issues internally. The court ultimately dismissed the complaint.

On Saturday, May 13, the NDC is anticipated to hold its primaries to select a presidential candidate and parliamentary candidates in advance of the 2024 elections.
