Renowned Lawyer, Gary Nimako Cautions James Gyake Quayson

Gary Nimako Marfo, a member of the legal team of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), advises the embattled Member of Parliament (MP) for the Assin North Constituency to keep his lips shut in order to avoid 'fresh trouble'.

The court has ordered James Gyakye Quayson to cease serving as the representative for Assin North.

Wednesday, May 17, 2023, a seven-member tribunal of the Supreme Court ordered Parliament to expunge the name of James Gyakye Quayson as a member of Parliament.

The ruling also noted that Mr. Quayson was ineligible at the time he ran for office in 2020. In contrast, the beleaguered lawmaker stated in a statement that he has referred the matter to the Court of conscience. His statement reads, "Obviously, I am dissatisfied with the Court's decision.

I am particularly astonished by the Court's assertion that foreign bureaucrats now determine whether Ghanaians of Ghanaian birth have the right to run for parliament in Ghana.

Thus, a country that prohibits renunciation of citizenship can prevent a Ghanaian of natural birth who severed all ties with a country of acquired citizenship from ever running for office.

In an interview with NEAT FM's 'Ghana Montie' morning program, attorney Gary Nimako stated that Mr. Gyakye Quayson is also facing a criminal charge and that he should be careful with his words as he attempts to defend himself. "If I were Quayson, I would remain silent because he is presently facing a criminal trial for perjury and other offenses in a Criminal Court.
