South Afadjato Residents Threaten Demonstration Over Frequent Dumsor

When the power goes out, they must improvise when it comes to storing and protecting vaccines, according to them.

Residents of the Afadjato South District of the Volta Region have threatened to organize a protest in response to "frequent dumsor" in the area.

Logba-Alakpeti, Logba-Adzakoe, Logba-Tota, Logba-Vuinta, and Logba-Akusame are the areas most negatively impacted by this regrettable power outage. The communities of Tafi and Fume are also among the affected communities.

Since they began receiving electricity from the national infrastructure, they assert that the Electricity Company of Ghana has treated them unfairly in terms of a consistent electric power supply.

Infuriated, they remarked, "They do not provide us with a constant power supply; rather, there are frequent outages and fluctuations."

Emmanuel Edem Afadzi stated in an interview with Ghanaian journalist Graham Kofi Baldwin in Logba Alakpeti that the region is becoming an agricultural hub due to the number of cottage industries and jobs created by these industries, and he questioned why the Electricity Company of Ghana would continue to sabotage people's investments through poor service delivery.

When the power goes out, they must improvise when it comes to storing and protecting vaccines, according to them.

Among other significant allegations against the power producer in the Volta Region, residents asserted, "the majority of communities have been placed on old and faulty transformers because they do not respect us in the area."

Most of the time, generator sets cannot adequately power the refrigerators in cold storage facilities, resulting in the spoilage of perishable products.

"The majority of Ve's regions contain industries," they repeated, "and a constant electricity supply is necessary for our business to thrive."

One of the communities, Logba–Alakpeti, is said to be the center of the Volta Region. It is a prosperous marketing center. On market day, there is an enchanting, bustling market that attracts merchants from all over.

Dumsor Logba is a junction for three municipalities in the Volta Region, a distribution center for natural crops, and the gateway to the Tafi Atome Monkey Sanctuary, a popular tourist destination. It also serves as a gateway to the northern region of the country via the eastern corridor.

As a crossroads between the Hohoe, Kpando, and Ho regions, Logba has the potential to attract merchants from those regions and has served as a year-round market for all sorts of fruits.

Contrary to what has been stated, it is necessary for the power provider to consistently furnish the area with electricity so that business operations can continue uninterrupted.

Residents had high expectations for their medical facilities. They stated that the efficacy of medications, particularly vaccines, at various health centers cannot be guaranteed due to the fact that health workers must search for storage alternatives for vaccines almost every day. They re-registered and asked the ECG to treat local residents with respect and equity.

The Electricity Company of Ghana Limited launched a nationwide revenue mobilization campaign in order to settle its debts to power producers.

Due to unpaid electricity bills or illegal connections, a number of consumers were disconnected from the national infrastructure.

Since consumers pay for the electricity they consume, Ghanaians have asked the ECG to provide efficient and reliable service.

Residents of the Logba and Ve enclaves have threatened to take to the streets if nothing is done to improve the situation. Therefore, they have given the power distribution company one week to replace all outdated and faulty transformers and resolve any other issue that could compromise the delivery of efficient and reliable service.
