In a tragic incident that occurred in Ghana, a 35-year-old farmer perished while attempting to save a drowning goat belonging to a neighbor from a community well.
The farmer, identified as Owusu, had agreed to pay his neighbor GHS 70 if he was able to save the animal. Before ascending the well, Owusu failed to gauge its depth, resulting in his demise.
Two minutes after entering the well, Owusu vanished from view, prompting onlookers to believe he had drowned. The Ghana Fire Service was dispatched to the site, and a team was sent to recover his body.
It took three personnel members to retrieve the dead bodies of Owusu and the goat from the deep well.
As evidenced by the visible injuries on his skull, a Ghana Fire Service official reported that the victim likely sustained head injuries during his rescue attempt. Owusu's remains were turned over to officers from the local police station for further investigation following the recovery of the bodies.
This calamity serves as a sobering reminder of the dangers of impulsive and unprepared rescue attempts, particularly in deep water.
