As police on duty officers stationed with Newmont Mining Limited struggle with the youth in Kenyasi Number 2 in the Ahafo district, one person has been reported deceased and four others are in serious condition.
According to sources, members of the newly formed police unit and counterterrorism unit stationed with the Newmont got into a fight with a motor rider, who then shot one person dead during the conflict.
Four more people were shot as a result of the youth uprising that his death precipitated.
In protest, the youth have surrounded a bridge that connects Kenyase No. 2 and Ntotroso Road.
Another pickup truck has been vandalized, and one vehicle thought to belong to the Newmont company has been set on fire.
