A man in his early 20s, thought to be in Alhassankura, a suburb of Damango in the west Gonja Municipality of the Savannah Region, is accused of kidnapping a young girl. He has been arrested and turned over to the Damango police.
On November 24, 2022, around 10 p.m., the suspect is said to have gone around the victim's house, where the victim was playing with four other kids under a streetlight.
The suspect reportedly gave each of the four GHS1.00 and told the victim that if she followed him, he would give her more money.
Then he took her to a nearby bush, which was also the local cemetery.
Sumaila Rashid Atalia, the assembly member for the Alhassankura Ngbaripe electoral area, talked to Citinewsroom.com about what happened at the scene. He said that the suspect is said to have given the victim chicken and noodles to eat.
At one point, the little girl got scared and tried to scream, but the suspect told her he would kill her if she did.
When the victim's four friends saw her being taken into the bush, they ran to her nearby house to tell her family.
Alarms went off, and the community went on a search. Suspect Nicholas and the victim were found under a tree, and Nicholas was arrested.
The suspect was turned over to the police, but not before some angry teens beat him up. Little Naimah was taken to St. Anne's hospital to be checked out by doctors.
Since then, the police have started to look into what happened.
