41-year-old man accused of impregnating a 13-year-old girl blames it on ‘Juju’

Wed., Dec. 28, 2022 – A 41-year-old man who is accused of getting a 13-year-old girl pregnant has said that it was because of "Voodoo."

A police report says that the victim went to St. Mary's Medical Center in West Palm Beach because she was having stomach pain. The report says that a later pregnancy test showed that the teen was about six weeks pregnant.

Police say that the girl told hospital staff that Jean Evenel Innocent, who is 41 years old, had made her pregnant.

Detective Brittany Tatum of the West Palm Beach Police Department wrote in the report that the victim said Innocent had raped her four times since she had surgery on her abdomen in July 2020.

Tatum wrote in November that Innocent went into the girl's room, took her pants down, told her, "Give me 10 minutes," and then started raping her.

Police said that when the girl said "no" and started crying, Innocent stopped and said "never mind."

During a controlled call that police recorded, the victim told Innocent that she had been throwing up and that the hospital was going to give her a pregnancy test, the report says.

Tatum wrote that Innocent told her to say "no" and then started making up a story about a relationship with a boy named "Semen." "He told the victim that he would go to jail if she told anyone."

Police say he also told her she wasn't pregnant because she wasn't due to get her period for another week.

During an interview with police, Innocent said that "voodoo" made him have sexual relations with the teen, and that he only remembered doing so twice.

Tatum wrote that the first time they slept together, they were in his bedroom and he told her he needed "five minutes." They then slept together for "only a few seconds."

Tatum wrote that the next time Innocent thought about raping the girl, he told her he needed "10 minutes" and told her, "This is the last time I'm going to ask."

Tatum wrote, "He said (the girl) had tears in her eyes, and she said 'OK.'" "He then got on top of her and they had a sexual encounter."

Innocent is being charged with three felonies: two counts of sexual battery with a child, one count of incest, and one count of getting a child pregnant.

He is in Palm Beach County Jail without bond right now.
