Assembly members from the Effiduase South electoral area said that the students were arrested after they damaged school property because their predecessors did not do well on the WASCCE in the last election in 2022.
Ebenezer Opoku, a member of the assembly who is also the coordinator for Free SHS in the District, said that the sad event happened on Sunday, January 22, 2023.
"Students have destroyed a total of six cars, four of which belonged to the school and two of which belonged to teachers." He said that things worth thousands of cedis were broken, including bungalows for the senior house mistress, her car, the school's notice board, stores, and food that was kept there.
It was only because of the security doors that the principal's room didn't get messed up, but the dining hall was still a mess. Most of the things they broke can't be fixed, including the government-provided car for the principal," he said.
Mr. Opoku, on the other hand, said that the Ashanti Regional Education Director, Dr. Annor Ankrah, and the District Education Director for Sekyere East, Mr. William Agyapong, have been to the school to check out the situation.
He did say, though, that police had brought peace back to the campus.
