A video of a gang allegedly involved in illegal small-scale mining, also known as galamsey, in Axim, a community in Ghana's West Region, has been circulating on social media.
The supposed leader of the gang, Kwame Ato Asare Ani, has been making derogatory remarks and allegations of corruption against the Ghana Police Service, after allegedly escaping arrest. Another video of the same gang has surfaced, in which they were seen molesting a man in military apparel.
In the video, the gang members referred to the man as a "commander from Accra," but it is not clear whether he is a member of the Ghana Armed Forces.
The gang members were heard threatening to kill him and proceeded to remove his military trousers, while one of them suggested cutting off a talisman on his neck.
The man pleaded with the gang and mentioned the name "Kwame." The incident has raised concerns about the security situation in the area and the activities of illegal miners in Ghana.
