With its all-electric "macrobat," a South African startup hopes to bring clean mobility to Africa.
The macrobat: a bird or a plane?
A hybrid bird-plane called the "macrobat" has been unveiled by the South African startup PHRACTYL in an effort to offer sustainable mobility to Africa. The personal airplane is unlike anything the industry has ever produced before and is said to be "inspired by nature." Even from unprepared terrain, the team claims a "near-vertical takeoff and landing." Additionally, the vehicle is planned to run entirely on electricity. These features enable PHRACTYL's "personal aerial vehicles" to increase mobility throughout Africa without adding extra, environmentally harmful infrastructure.
