After listening to Gabby, I became sad for Ghana - Frimpong-Boateng

The former Minister of Environment, Science, and respected heart surgeon, Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng, has responded to accusations made by lawyer and known New Patriotic Party (NPP) member, Mr. Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, over a leaked report from the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining (IMCIM).

In the report, Prof Frimpong-Boateng highlighted Mr. Otchere-Darko's defense of a mining company that was actively destroying Ghana's environment, including its forests and rivers. However, Mr. Otchere-Darko responded to these claims by accusing the professor of having a weak understanding of his position and suggesting that the President would not act on a verbal complaint.

Prof Frimpong-Boateng has hit back at these accusations, stating that Mr. Otchere-Darko displayed "industrial-scale ignorance" about mining laws and regulations. He expressed sadness for Ghana, wondering how a person who is supposed to be a lawyer for a mining company could exhibit such a lack of knowledge about the laws and regulations that govern the industry.

The professor also reminded Mr. Otchere-Darko that his client had a strong history of acting with impunity, causing destruction to the environment that should have led to prosecution and possible imprisonment. Prof Frimpong-Boateng suggested that Mr. Otchere-Darko should not have forgotten about the destruction caused by his client, and he offered to refresh his memory with pictures and videos from the Diaso forest and Apaprama.

Overall, Prof Frimpong-Boateng's response to Mr. Otchere-Darko's accusations was firm, as he sought to clarify the facts and highlight the importance of protecting Ghana's environment.
