Akufo-Addo’s defense on misuse of Covid funds distasteful – Sam George

Sam George finds Akufo-Addo's defence of misappropriation of Covid funds shocking.

Sam Nartey George, Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram, has accused President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo of lying and being dishonest about the use of COVID funds during his State of the Nation Address to Parliament.

Even though the Auditor General's report found some instances of misuse of COVID funds, the President insisted in his speech on 8 March that allegations that the government had mismanaged the funds were untrue and the product of someone's imagination.

"The President had the audacity to question the Auditor General's audit."

When it comes to fighting corruption, President Akufo-Addo has been the worst, so it was uncomfortable to hear him repeatedly claim that he had not misappropriated any COVID funds.

Sam George also implied that Akufo-Addo's leadership and unethical actions had forced Ghana to approach the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for a $3 billion loan facility.

He also disputed the president's claim that his government had completed the most projects, saying the president should be asked to provide data to back up his claims.

The president's brazen declaration to former president Kufuor that he has built more infrastructure than any previous government in Ghana's history is becoming unseemly.
