Aljazeera Must Learn From Wontumi Media - Chairman Wontumi

Mr. Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, the Ashanti regional Chairman for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), recently criticized Aljazeera TV network for broadcasting a false report about the laundering of gold and money in Ghana using mafia tactics.

Chairman Wontumi, as he is popularly known, accused Aljazeera of being notorious for disseminating fake news without verifying their sources. He suggested that the TV station should learn some basic journalism ethics from Wontumi Media Empire and restore its damaged reputation.

Chairman Wontumi emphasized the importance of being truthful in the global village we live in. He warned that broadcasting fake news could easily be detected and would ultimately destroy any remaining credibility that the TV station had left to protect.

In a related development, Ghana's President, Nana Akufo-Addo, recently wrote a letter to Al Jazeera regarding an undercover investigative report titled "Gold Mafia." The President's Secretary, Nana Bediatuo Asante, demanded a retraction and apology from Al Jazeera within seven days of receiving the letter.

The letter stated that the documentary contained spurious and unsubstantiated allegations against the President and the Government of Ghana. Among other things, the documentary made baseless claims that the President acted as a lawyer for Mr. Alistair Mathias and personally benefited unlawfully from an alleged $100 million state Infrastructure contract purportedly awarded to Mr. Mathias.

Responding to Al Jazeera's letter, the President's Legal Counsel, Mr. Kow Abaka Essuman, denied the allegations, stating that the President had not been in private practice since the year 2000 and had no recollection of acting as a lawyer for Mr. Mathias or his company, Guldrest Resources, either personally or through his law firm, Messrs. Akufo-Addo, Prempeh and Co.

In summary, Chairman Wontumi called out Al Jazeera for broadcasting false news, while Ghana's President demanded a retraction and apology from the TV network over unsubstantiated allegations made against him and his government in a documentary titled "Gold Mafia."
