The media house says that Gbande was eventually saved from the angry men and taken away, but not before he was verbally abused and hit several times.

"A group of Haruna supporters didn't like hearing the deputy secretary's answers and reasons, so they surrounded the radio station and tried to attack him while the discussion was still going on, but they were stopped.

"They attacked him physically outside the radio station's studios after the show, slapping and insulting him as they dragged him to his car," Radio Tamale wrote on its Facebook page.

During the interview, Gbande is said to have said that the decision by the party to change the leadership of the DNC caucus in parliament made him uncomfortable, but he thought it was for a good reason.

He then asked the regular members of the party to trust the new leadership of the NDC. He also said that the party has a lot of people with skills in all areas, so anyone could be called on at any time to help win in 2024.

The NDC's decision to change its leadership in the legislative house became public on Tuesday, January 24. The speaker, Alban Bagbin, has been sent a letter about the change, and the outgoing leaders have also been told about it.

Cassiel Ato Forson, an MP for Ajumako Enyan Esiam, has replaced Haruna Iddrisu, who was the Minority Leader for the NDC. Iddrisu was the MP for Tamale-South. Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, MP for Ellembele Constituency, replaced James Klutsey Avezi, MP for Ketu-North, who was his deputy. Kwame Governs Agbodza, MP for Adaklu Constituency, replaced Alhaji Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka, MP for Asawase in the Ashanti Region, as the Chief Whip.

Some NDC lawmakers are angry about the reshuffle because they say they were not asked what they thought and that they haven't told the party that they didn't like the old leadership. It has caused a split in the minority caucus in parliament, with some calling for the party to change its mind and others supporting Ato Forson's leadership.

The new leader of the minority party has promised that he will do his job well with the help of the caucus.

Forson said on Thursday, January 26: "As a leader, it will be my job to represent our shared goals with unwavering dedication and high integrity."

The NDC, led by its chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketia and General Secretary Fiifi Kwetey, says that the decision will not be changed because it was made after all the necessary consultations.
