Antonio Banderas says the best thing to happen in his life was a heart attack

Antonio Banderas, who was nominated for an Oscar, said that having a heart attack was "the best thing that ever happened to him."

Banderas said that his close call with death was also a part of what made him want to make his latest movie, Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, which is about death.

In the movie, which is the fifth one with the sword-wielding cat, Puss is on his last of nine lives.

The Spanish actor, who is 62 years old, said that being close to death made him see his life "from a different point of view." He also said that he now only acts for the fun of it.

He said to Radio Times,

"Well, six years ago I had a heart attack.

"It might have been one of the best things to happen to me. Putting on glasses helped me see what was important."

"Since I had a heart attack, I only want to act for the fun of it. All done. I'm not interested in anything else. For me, life starts when someone says "Action!" or when the curtain goes up."

In 2017, Banderas was rushed to the hospital after having chest pains while he was working out.

The actor said that his 40-year-old girlfriend Nicole Kimpel saved his life when she gave him an aspirin that she had bought for him to help with his headaches.
