GCPP Chairman: "Bawumia gave us a mosque, but Mahama promised us mortuaries"

Mr Kofi Owusu Omar, Ashanti Regional Chairman of the GCPP, has commended Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia for giving a mosque to the Muslim community, while criticising Mr John Mahama for promising to build mortuaries for the same community.

Speaking on the Wontumi Morning Show, Mr Owusu Omar expressed his gratitude for the Vice President's generosity and said it would significantly increase the number of Muslim voters in Ghana.

Recently, Vice President Bawumia visited Kumasi for the inauguration and commissioning of the Kumasi Central Mosque.

Dr Bawumia funded the reconstruction of the famous mosque into an ultra-modern complex with an increased capacity of 7000 people. He also funded the construction of office complexes for Zongo Chiefs and Imams, as well as a conference hall and other facilities.

The ceremony was attended by the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Ministers of State, Members of Parliament, the National Chief Imam, Regional Imams, members of the diplomatic corps and several Muslims.

John Dramani Mahama, former president and current presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress, promised to build Muslim mortuaries during the 2020 general elections.
