Karabo Monyama, a missing 15-year-old girl, has been found dead and buried in a small grave in the South African backyard of her 23-year-old boyfriend's home.
Lieutenant Colonel Amanda Funani, a police spokesperson, confirmed the news in a statement, saying that Monyama's body was found on 8 March 2023.
Funani said the victim's lover had been taken into custody and charged with murder, perjury and defeating the ends of justice.
The teenager from Cyferskuil, near Makapanstad in the North West province, was last seen around midday on Sunday when she went home to watch football at a local field, the spokesman said. She never returned home.
"A suspect has been arrested by Cyferskuil police after the body of a missing teenager was discovered yesterday, 8 March 2023. Karabo Monyama, 15, was found dead and buried in a small hole in the backyard of her 23-year-old boyfriend. The boyfriend was arrested the same day and charged with murder, lying under oath and perverting the course of justice. He is due to appear at Moretele Magistrates' Court on Friday 10 March 2023.
