The family of a person who got sick after getting a Covid-19 shot in Mwele village, Rabai subcounty, wants justice.

The family says that 17-year-old Emmanuel Chiringa got the Covid-19 vaccine in February 2022.

Chiringa is now stuck in bed because his hand is swollen.

The person who got the shot was a student at Mwele Primary School at the time.

Health workers from the Kombeni dispensary gave the vaccine to the children.

Chiringa told the star at his home that his left hand started hurting after he got the vaccine.

"The place where the vaccine was given hurt a lot. I tried to ignore it in hopes that it would go away, but it never did. "After a while, the pain made it hard for me to use my left hand," he said.

Since May of last year, the top of the hand has been getting bigger.

Chiringa was supposed to start Form 1 in May of last year, but because of the problem, he couldn't.

"I went to the clinic in Kombeni, and they told me to go to the hospital in Rabai. I was given some medicine, but I didn't feel any better, "he said.

Chiringa was later sent to the subcounty hospital in Mariakani.

"They asked for an X-ray to be done. After the first X-ray, they told me that the needle had touched the bone, but I should wait for a more experienced doctor "he said.

"When the senior doctor arrived, he asked for a second X-ray, which showed that my hand was fine. Then, they told me to go to Kilifi County Hospital to get checked out more.

Chiringa said that no one helped him at the Kilifi County Referral Hospital, so he went back home.

His mother, Medza Magongo, decided to take him to the Coast General Teaching and Referral Hospital when things got worse.

Chiringa was having trouble moving around because his hand hurt and was heavy.

Magongo said that her son had been through several tests, but they couldn't figure out what was wrong.

She said that they asked for Magnetic Resonance Imaging, but the family couldn't come up with the money to pay for it at a private hospital.

"The MRI machine at Coast General Hospital wasn't working, so private hospitals were the only option. We didn't have any other choice but to take him home. Magongo said, "Ever since then, he has been in pain day and night."

The mother said that the swollen spot has some sores and that sometimes clear fluid comes out of it.

"I can't go to work anymore because I have to take care of my son. He is too sick to walk to the bathroom. We raised money to take him to the hospital, but now we can't get there. "Anyone who wants to help us find treatment and can do so is very welcome," she said.

Chiringa's cousin, Zainab Rajab, said that the family needs Sh35,000 to pay for the MRI and to get to the hospital.

"Because of the pain, he can't eat well and can't sleep. "We're asking for help," she said.

Hassan Khamis, who is in charge of medical services in Kilifi, confirmed what happened and said that they have been trying to help the boy, but there are always problems with communication.

Khamis said that doctors from the Rabai subcounty have been trying to get in touch with the patient's family, but they haven't been helpful.

He said that they told the Ministry of Health and the Pharmacy and Poisons Board about the case.

"They told us to look into it thoroughly so we could find out if it was the vaccine that caused the problem or if there was something else going on," "Khamis said.

"We sent a car and gave the family money to bring him to Kilifi, but they didn't."

The director said that the government of Kilifi will pay for the boy's care whenever he comes.

"Malindi has an MRI machine, so the MRI can be done there. "This is a very scary situation, and we can't just leave the family," he said.
