Captain Smart Is On The Run In Obuasi - Here’s Why

Captain Smart, the host of Onua Maakye, revealed that he had a conversation with Elijah Adansi-Bonah, the Obuasi Municipal Chief Executive, who confirmed that he instructed his bodyguard to prevent the morning show team from conducting their program on Thursday. The Maakye team had planned a three-day running show in the Obuasi municipality as part of their Peoples' Assembly initiative, which allows people to voice their challenges to authorities who provide immediate responses.

The team had visited the Anglogold Ashanti Mine shaft to investigate the recent clash between illegal miners and mine workers. However, after the first day, a strong and muscular man, who had damaged the technical equipment, stated that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) executives who attended the previous day's program were booed, which led to the decision to halt the show on Thursday.

Captain Smart, speaking with Isaac Ansah Apagya at the Onua TV studios in Accra, recounted his conversation with the MCE. He asked the bodyguard on whose authority he was acting, to which the bodyguard replied that he had been sent by the MCE. Captain Smart then contacted the MCE directly, who explained that the location where the program was organized was a parking lot for the assembly, and they required payment. However, Captain Smart pointed out that when they arrived on Tuesday night, they were informed that a receipt would be provided for the payment, but it was never given.

Regarding an earlier allegation made on the show by Bright Nyampong, a youth organizer of the NPP, claiming that the team did not seek permission from the assembly, Captain Smart clarified that they did seek permission. He had spoken to the caretaker of the venue, Muniru, who requested time to discuss with the assembly to determine the appropriate fee, but they never received a response.

Captain Smart also urged the residents of Obuasi to remain calm amidst the growing tension in the area. He emphasized that the youth were against violence but expected the necessary development to be provided; otherwise, they would express their discontent.

In conclusion, Captain Smart shared the details of his conversation with the MCE and clarified the allegations made against the show. He also called for peace in Obuasi and highlighted the expectations of the local youth.
