Outraged youth recently launched a violent attack on a police station located in Sefwi Bekwai, Western North region according to report by Starr FM.

The group was protesting the arrest of a Pragyia rider named Kwabena Gyapong, who was detained by the police after he headbutted a police officer during a search. The rider was reportedly on his way to Sefwi Sorano when the incident occurred.

Upon learning of the arrest, the group, primarily consisting of Pragyia riders, mobilized and attacked the police station with stones and clubs, causing significant damage to a service vehicle. The situation was eventually brought under control after a reinforcement team arrived and fired sporadic warning shots.

During the attack, two of the individuals involved were injured, while four others were taken into custody. However, the Sefwi Bekwai District Police Command denied that the injuries sustained by the individuals were caused by gunshots.

Nana Gyebi, the father of the accused Pragyia rider, alleged that his son was severely injured during the altercation. He further alleged that instead of receiving medical attention, his son was kept in police custody.

In an effort to deescalate the situation, Mr. Paul Andoh, the Bibiani Ahwianso Bekwai Constituency 1st vice chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), along with other opinion leaders in the town, visited the police station on behalf of the MP for the area, Hon. Alfred Obeng Boateng.
