Cheating Husband Deliberately Crashes Car With Pregnant Wife Inside, See Why

“We're going to die in this car TODAY”: These were the words of a husband who tried to kill himself with his pregnant wife in the car after he was caught cheating on her with the maid.

Bulawayo was treated to a free movie at 8am on Wednesday morning when Desire Charingeni and his wife Edith Mutanda had an epic argument in a speeding car that caused it to veer off the road and hit a pedestrian, seriously injuring him.

The Parklands suburb couple fought all the way from their home until their Honda Fit went off the road at the corner of 25th Avenue and Matopos Road.

Velaphi Zhou, a construction assistant, was out for a walk while waiting for cement for a project he was working on. A car hit him as it drove towards a prefabricated wall, destroying it before coming to a stop. He broke his tibia in the accident.

Residents were confused when they ran to the car, which was stuck in the wall, and saw a quarrelling couple still shouting at each other.

Witnesses said Charingeni, who was later rushed to United Bulawayo Hospitals (UBH) on a stretcher with back pain, said his wife had grabbed the steering wheel and forced him off the road.

Matanda vehemently denied the allegation, saying Charingeni had deliberately threatened to crash the car after she asked for a divorce.

"I didn't do anything to the steering wheel. He said he had an accident in the car once, but the next time he would make sure we all died. Matanda was very upset.

"After dropping our child off at school, we agreed to go to the central police station in Bulawayo to get help with our divorce. She said: "He slept with the maid.

She said her husband stepped on the accelerator when he said he was going to kill her, causing the horrific accident.

When the B-Metro crew arrived at the scene, Matanda was sitting on a lawn next to one of the houses. She looked very sad. She started to get angry at the news crew, but someone who could have been a relative stopped her.

The car was still stuck in the wall when Charingeni and Dube were taken to UBH.

Inspector Abedinico Ncube, a Bulawayo police spokesman, would only confirm the accident yesterday.

"According to the facts, the first person was driving south on Matopos Road when he lost control of his car and veered off the road to the right, hitting the second person who was walking south. "The first group then crashed into the Durawall at number 01, 25th Avenue Famona, Bulawayo," a police spokesperson said.

Charingeni was charged with negligent driving and his car was taken to the Vehicle Inspection Department (VID) for examination.
