A senior police officer appeared in court yesterday to face multiple charges of raping a subordinate over a two-year period.

Chief Inspector Cuthbert Gwidi, 47, did not have to say anything when he appeared before Harare magistrate Stanford Mambanje. He was immediately released because he had not been in custody until his court appearance.
The State said the 44-year-old complainant was first raped when Gwidi sent her to his office to collect some papers.
She says Gwidi followed her into the office and threatened to fire her, saying she was one of the ghost workers who didn't have the right qualifications.
According to the State, he told the woman that he would only recommend that she keep her job if they had sex.
He allegedly put her on a car seat in his office and then raped her.
He is also accused of raping her on several other occasions up until 2019, when she first reported him.
Gwidi is in the company of his friend Mathew Muleya, who is also accused of raping the woman.
The court heard that in 2018, Gwidi and the complainant, who is a member of the police band, played at a fundraising dinner in Harare where Muleya was a delegate.
The female band members were kicked out after the event and sent home, but Gwidi called the complainant back to the hotel.
Gwidi allegedly arranged for Muleya to have sex with the complainant in exchange for money.
Muleya allegedly raped her twice without protection and gave her a sexually transmitted disease.
A medical affidavit was taken at the Adult Rape Clinic where she was treated.
The State was represented by Kennedy Madekutsikwa.
