The Accra High Court turned down a case that questioned whether it was legal to register SIM cards using the Ghana Card as proof.
Nine people had asked the High Court to overturn a decision by the Minister of Communications that the Ghana Card was the only way to register and that everyone had to register within a certain time or risk having their SIM cards cut off.
The applicants said that the Minister's decision, which was carried out by the National Communications Authority (NCA), was arbitrary and went against their constitutional right to administrative justice.
But in a judgment, the court, presided over by Justice Charles Ekow Baiden, held that the applicants failed to prove that the NCA acted arbitrarily or in excess of its powers.
The court accordingly dismissed the application
