In Onitsha, Anambra State, the body of a suspected commercial sex worker was discovered in a brothel along the old market road.

It was reported that the deceased, simply identified as Chisom from Enugu State, died on 30 January 2023 after washing dishes.
However, the cause of her death is controversial as the brothel has been abandoned by her neighbours and customers, who are mainly sex workers.
A dispute over money may have led to her being strangled by an early caller, according to some who claim she hanged herself in her hotel room, while others claim she was poisoned and died as a result.
The dead woman allegedly committed suicide, according to a neighbour who spoke to The Nation, after learning that her partner had left her for another woman.
She had a boyfriend who often showered her with money. Even last Christmas, the boyfriend approached her with gifts, including a 200,000-dollar sack of rice, and begged her to spend the holidays away from home and return later.
"She was informed that her lover had gotten married as soon as she returned. After that, she started behaving strangely and three days ago, she was seen with a rope in her hand.
She became combative when asked why she was holding the rope, swept her room early in the morning and we learnt that she had killed herself in her room around nine in the morning.
"We noticed that her neck was tied to the window of her room with a rope, but her legs were on the floor. Since there was no foam coming out of her mouth, but her tongue was out, we cannot tell if she committed suicide.
Officers from the nearby Onitsha Area Police Area Command visited the hotel around 12.30pm and left with some hotel staff before returning with an ambulance and removing the body.
Investigations have begun, according to DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, a spokesman for the state police command, who confirmed the incident.
The absence of a suicide note in the room casts doubt on the death. We're exploring all avenues to ascertain how the death occurred,'' he said.
