Actor Ama Serwaa: "Directors refuse to give me acting roles because I won't have sexual relations with them."
The question of whether or not sex can be exchanged to get viral or significant acting jobs is raised in the Ghanaian entertainment industry, especially in acting.
There are those who claim it's common knowledge, but there's not much evidence to support their claims.
In a recent one-on-one interview with Ekow Koomson on Ghanaweekend TV, which has since gone viral, Ama Serwaa, an aspiring Ghanaian actress and life coach, addressed the issue of whether or not a producer has ever asked her for sex before offering her a job. Ama Serwaa claimed:
Well yes, I don't get many acting opportunities because I don't do that.
I've only done 6, 7 big budget films.
But I don't get more roles because I don't do that. Because I turned down an important role, I think many in the business do, because I wasn't chosen.
She claimed that although several of the film producers had made sexual advances towards her, she was not obliged to name them for fear of being sued or having her name removed from projects in the entertainment industry.
