Dr. Sri Yogi Ram Beckley was a doctor and an occultist who is said to have taken school children and sacrificed them to his gods. When he was first arrested in 1994, he had many school uniforms and human skulls in his house at Fadama in Accra.
Beckley pleaded not guilty to the charge and was given five million cedis bail (500gh) by a Regional Tribunal on June 25, 1994, after the Adjabeng Community Tribunal denied him bail.
When the situation was finally reported to the police, his house was searched, but the girl who was dragged to his room could not be found. A group of angry people burned down his house again. Beckley supposedly got a girl to come to his house by saying he wanted to buy some vegetables she was selling.
On April 14, police caught Dr. Beckley for taking two teenage girls, one of whom was 13 years old, to his home in New Gbawe. Dr. Beckley is said to have called the girls who were selling tomatoes and told them he would buy all of their goods if they would drive with him to his house.
The children supposedly went to Dr. Beckley's house with him. One of the girls was tied to a tree in the house, and the other was dragged into a room in the house. But when police searched his house, they couldn't find the other girl, who had been dragged into one of the rooms.
Police had a guard at Dr. Beckley's house 24 hours a day to keep angry teens from breaking in and setting fire to it, but they did it anyway. Hundreds of people surrounded the house and threw rocks at Police and Fire Service workers who were there.
His multi-story house in New Fadama was surrounded by high walls so that no one could see what was going on inside. His victims also had a harder time getting away. It was said that he ate his victims' flesh and drank their blood. His house and the place where he lived are now a church's place of worship and a prayer camp.
Parents used to hide their kids in their bedrooms because they were afraid Dr. Beckley would take them and use them in rituals.
Other parents had to protect their children from Dr. Beckley by taking them to and from school with clubs and guns.
