Samuel Mahama, Managing Director of ECG, confirmed the arrest on Wednesday (22 March) when he spoke to Philip Asiawo, stand-in host of the Asaase Morning Show.

The National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) has arrested some staff of the IT department of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) in connection with the utility's recent metering problem.

The metering failure in October last year left some customers in Takoradi, Tema, Cape Coast, Kasoa, Winneba, Swedru, Koforidua, Nkawkaw and Tafo unable to purchase electricity credits.

Following the discovery of the activities lead to the arrest of a staff as ECG confirmed the arrest.

Ongoing Investigation

The Managing Director of ECG, Samuel Mahama, confirmed the arrest on Wednesday (22 March) when he spoke to the host of the Asaase Morning Show, Philip Asiawo, but gave no further information.

“Investigations are still ongoing,” Mahama said. “Some of them were picked up, others were asked to go, so that conversation is for the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) to deal with.”

“And as for our problems of information technology, we have done our best to come a long way. I will say most of them have been fixed.

“We are doing our best to improve our security, both cyber and physical, so that we can better serve the people of Ghana and ensure that we are reliable in delivering the services that we have promised," the ECG CEO said.
