In Lagos, a 47-year-old father named Frederick lost his life in a fight with a school bus driver accused of defiling his 7-year-old daughter.

It was learnt that the deceased died on the school premises after a fight with the driver, Jacob.

To explain their daughter's interaction with Jacob and to demand immediate action, Frederick had taken his widow and daughter to meet with the school administration.

Jacob fled the scene after dying in the altercation, sparking a police manhunt.

SP Benjamin Hundeyin, a spokesman for the state police, confirmed the incident and said the driver was being sought by police. He added that the police would not give up until the driver was arrested.

Frederick's widow told the News Agency of Nigeria that her daughter told her how Jacob took her to his residence in Ajuwon, Ogun, to molest her.

She claimed that after telling her late husband the same report, he called the school and was invited to the school to resolve the situation.

"On February 1, my daughter informed me that her school bus driver took her to his house in Ajuwon under the pretext of dropping something and asked her to follow him.

"When they arrived at the house, the driver asked my daughter to sit on his lap, lift up her school uniform and kiss him on the mouth.

"On Monday 6 February, I told my husband what our daughter had said. He immediately called the school to complain and said he would also report the allegation to the police.

"We went to the school on 7 February, as he had instructed us to do, and met the owner, the driver and some of the teachers.

"After hearing what we had to say, the owner of the school challenged the bus driver, claiming that he had been late with the bus the week before, and when questioned, claimed that he had gone to drop something off at home.

"When he was later questioned about the allegations made against him, he denied them. When my daughter was questioned later, she gave the same account as she had told us at home.

The only thing the driver could say was: 'Me?, 'Me?, 'Me?

"My husband, who was clearly angry, confronted the driver and demanded to know why he had abused my daughter.

"The driver punched my husband in the chest after my husband hit him hard and they began to argue. He fell and attempts to revive him failed.

We rushed him to the hospital where he was pronounced dead," the woman said.

She went on to say that Jacob ran away after the incident and that she later reported the case to the Iju Police Station.

The headmaster of the school declined to comment, saying he was helping the authorities to find Jacob, the missing school bus driver.
