Female students turn to sports betting due to hardship - UPSA SRC President

According to Majesty E.K. Ofori, the President of the Student Representative Council (SRC) at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), female students in Ghana are turning to sports betting, breaking the stereotype that it is predominantly a male activity.

Ofori attributed this trend to economic hardship, and revealed on the GTV Breakfast Show that some female students bet on football teams and basketball, despite not fully understanding the intricacies of the process. He added that betting has now become a subject in its own right, with people being educated on how to bet.

However, the recent 10% tax on earnings from lotteries, games of chance, and sports betting imposed by the government has not been received well by the youth, for whom betting has become a source of income.

Ofori's statement indicates that female students are taking up sports betting as a means of supplementing their income during difficult times.
