A man who used to play football in the Premier League was caught in Dublin after a chase with police. The man was found to have several thousand pounds of suspected cocaine on him.
The player was caught in Crumlin, which is southwest of the city center of the capital. At first, he tried to get away from members of a garda siochana who were looking for him because of his dangerous driving.
The former international was finally taken into custody and held at a local station until this morning, when he was let go.
The Irish Mirror was the first to report that when the man was arrested, police found what they thought was a small amount of cocaine worth about €4,500 (£4,000) on the street.
There is work being done on a file for the director of public prosecutions in Ireland.
The press office at the garda has been asked for a comment.
