Leaders of four unions - the Motor Riders Union, the True Drivers Union, the Concerned Drivers Union and the Abossey Okai Spare-part Dealers Association - have petitioned former President John Dramani Mahama to contest the 2024 elections.

The unions say if John Dramani Mahama is elected president, he will be the best person to deal with the country's economic problems.

The Public Relations Officer of the Motor Riders Association, Setsofia Quashie, delivered the petition to the office of the former president and said Ghanaians want a change of government that will turn around the economy.

He said: “Everything is a mess since you left. We can't even buy petrol to go to work to make ends meet. We can't wait for you to come and save us because things have been so hard. With this petition, we're asking you to consider the points we've raised and to do what needs to be done by listening to all Ghanaians who want things to change.”

When John Mahama's former Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, received the petition, he said the former president would think about it.
