Frances Essiam Beats Retreat…Begs President Akufo-Addo

The sacked Managing Director of the Ghana Cylinder Manufacturing Company (GCML), Frances Awurabena Essiam, has offered an unequivocal apology to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for her recent offensive comments.

President Akufo-Addo sacked the outspoken former CEO of the Cylinder Corporation for unclear reasons and appointed a new CEO in her place.

Fascinatingly, Frances Essiam tendered her resignation from her position last Friday after she was sacked.

She then went on a media offensive, accusing Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the Minister of Energy, of interfering with her duties as Managing Director of the company.

She berated Nana Bediatuo Asante, Executive Secretary to President Akufo-Addo, for his conduct throughout the ordeal.

Notwithstanding Nana Bediatuo Asante's signature on a letter from the presidency on 21 February 2023, which contradicted Frances Essiam's claim that she had resigned on Friday 24 February 2023, Madam Genevieve Sackey was in fact appointed as the new MD.

Upon realising this, Frances was not pleased and promised never to accept another appointment from the President, claiming to be a woman of integrity.

“I'm a strong, intelligent woman. I don't need Nana Akufo-Addo to make appointments for me. A party or a nation that doesn't honour its heroes and heroines is not worth dying for, she said on UTV. Loyalty that is not respected is not worth following.”

Surprisingly, Frances Essiam released a statement on Monday begging President Akufo-Addo to forgive her for her arrogance and insults to the media.

She said “Your Excellency,

“I have reflected on the incidents following my permanent resignation as Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Cylinder Manufacturing Company Limited. Concerning your esteemed personality and ‘Office’ as The President and Primus Inter Pa-res of The Republic of Ghana and an elderly citizen, I render my sincere apologies to you.

“Your Excellency, I remain a committed member of the New Patriotic Party. Accept my highest assurance and warm regards. I wish the Government the best in all its endeavours.”
