Former Member of Parliament for Manso Nkwanta, Joseph Albert Quarm, has denied accusations made against him by former Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng, that he engaged in illegal mining activities.
In a report by the former Minister, Mr Quarm was accused of using his position as a member of the Minerals Commission to acquire large-scale concessions, which he then sold to private individuals for two hundred thousand Cedis per concession.
However, Mr Quarm has called these claims lies and stated that he does not own any concessions. He has called on Prof. Frimpong-Boateng to apologize and retract his claims, or he will take legal action.
The report also accused some NPP officials of hiring Chinese nationals to engage in illegal mining activities. Prof. Frimpong-Boateng claimed that many party officials had their friends, PAs, agents, relatives, financiers or relatives engaged in illegal mining.
He also alleged that there were appointees in the Jubilee House who were supporting illegal mining or interfering with the fight against the menace.
