Fuel Tanker Accident Causes Highway Closure in Central Region

Thu, 20 Apr 2023 Source: Club Mate

So on Wednesday evening, the Biriwa section of the Cape Coast-Mankessim highway located in the Central Region had to be closed down for a few hours. This was because there was an accident involving a fuel tanker, and authorities had to take precautions to prevent an explosion.

As a result of the accident, farmers and anyone else who could potentially start a fire in the area were also asked to leave to prevent any disasters from occurring. This assessment was made by the Fire Service, who determined that it was necessary to take these measures.

Unfortunately, the situation caused a lot of traffic in the evening, which must have been quite frustrating for anyone trying to get home.

The tanker was carrying bulk oil from Atuabo in the Western Region to Tema. It fell on the road and needed to be cooled down with a foam compound and water mist by the Fire Service to avoid an explosion. Thankfully, the driver only suffered minor injuries and is being investigated by the police to determine the cause of the accident.

In the meantime, the condensate was transferred into a new fuel tanker. Let's hope that this serves as a reminder for everyone to drive safely and be mindful of potential hazards on the road.
