GFA Shortlists Thomas Tuchel And 5 Other Coaches For Black Stars Job

Fri, 16 Dec 2022 Source: Club Mate

Club Mate has learned that the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has chosen six of the best coaches to be finalists for the job of Black Stars coach.

The Black Stars don't have a coach right now because Otto Addo, who was based in Germany, quit after Ghana lost early at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Otto Addo said he was leaving the Black Stars after they lost to Uruguay. This meant that the four-time African champions would not be able to move on to the next round of the biggest soccer tournament.

Club Mate has heard that six top coaches, including George Boateng and Chris Hughton, are in the running for the open Black Stars job. Both Boateng and Hughton worked under Otto Addo.

World-class coaches like Thomas Tuchel and Paulo Bento give the pair a lot of trouble.

After leaving Chelsea and South Korea, respectively, Thomas Tuchel and Paulo Bento are both out of work.

The German coach was fired from Chelsea for not doing a good job, and the Portuguese coach quit after South Korea was kicked out of the World Cup in the Round of 16.

Also, Belgium's coach Tom Saintfiet is one of the six candidates for the job with the Black Stars.

The 49-year-old is in charge of the national team for Gambia right now. He got the country into the Africa Cup of Nations for the first time in 2021 and led them to the quarterfinals.

Dragan Stojkovi, a coach from Serbia, is also a strong candidate for the Black Stars job.

The 57-year-old is the head coach of the Serbian national team right now, and he will try to get the job with the Black Stars.

He led the Serbian team to the World Cup in 2022, but they were later kicked out of the tournament.

The Ghana FA is likely to choose a new coach for the national team, since qualifier games for the 2023 AFCON are set for March.

After losing to Uruguay 2-0 in the first round, the Black Stars were out of the tournament.

After beating South Korea in their second group game, the Black Stars needed a draw or a win against Uruguay to move on to the round of 16.

But the team couldn't find a way to get points from their "enemy," Uruguay.

Ghana started the game well, but things went downhill after their captain Andre Ayew missed a penalty in the 21st minute. This was the same thing that happened in the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
