Ghanaian Woman Dies At Home Following Two-Hour Wait For Ambulance In London

A mother died while waiting for an ambulance for almost two hours, even though she was in a lot of pain and had trouble breathing.

Her nine-year-old daughter was heartbroken and tried for hours to wake her up. Victoria Louisa Maame Yamphet, who was 40, died last week in her home in Dagenham, east London, in front of her terrified 9- and 18-year-old daughters.

Her 18-year-old daughter, Emmanuela, said that her mother came home with the flu on January 8 and quickly got worse.

Heartbroken Emmanuella Yamphet, who is 18 years old, thinks that if her mother had been found faster, she might still be alive.

The London Ambulance Service (LAS) says it is "deeply sorry" for the delay and is looking into how it handled the situation.

Emmanuella first called 999 on January 10 for her asthmatic mother, who was recovering from the flu.

"It was really bad, and she was in a lot of pain," said the teenager, who was home alone with her mother and nine-year-old sister at the time.

She said that the person who took her call told her an ambulance would be there in "six to ten minutes," but when it didn't come, she called back and was told to wait another 20 minutes.

She said, "I kept calling them to see what was going on." "They said it would take an hour just after 7 a.m.

"My mother was still in pain, and it was getting harder for her to breathe.

"I was very upset because I didn't know how to help my mother. It took so long for the ambulance to come.

Around 7:15 a.m., a call handler set up for a taxi to pick up Mrs. Yamphet and take her to the hospital. The taxi was supposed to arrive at 7:26 a.m.

But it didn't get there until 7:45 a.m., which was sadly too late.

Around 7:42 a.m., Mrs. Yamphet stopped taking breaths.

In a panic, Emmanuella called 999 again and begged for an ambulance as she began CPR on her mom.

"I was crying, and I was on the floor with my mother, trying to get her to wake up," she said.

Just a few minutes later, paramedics arrived and took over. They told Mrs. Yamphet's children that she had had a heart attack.

They couldn't save her, and around 8:52am, Mrs. Yamphet was pronounced dead.
