Hot Audio: Ken Agyapong Jabs Bawumia On The State Of The Economy

Wed, 30 Nov 2022 Source: Club Mate

Recently, Dr. Bawumia has been accused of not showing his economic skills as Head of the Economic Management Team. This is because the cedi hasn't done well against the dollar, among other economic problems.

Kennedy Agyapong, a member of parliament from Assin Central, has taken on Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia. He says that the vice president has let the troubled finance minister Ken Ofori-Atta bully him.

Agyapong is supposedly giving a speech at a party in a recording that went viral on social media on Tuesday, November 29. The crowd cheers for him as he speaks.

Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, the MP for Assin Central, said that he lost about $12 million because the cedi fell in value against the dollar between March and August 2022.

He said that the Vice President has nothing more to say to Ghanaians after he told the government of John Dramani Mahama in 2014 that "if the fundamentals are weak, the exchange rate will show you up"

As part of his campaign to be the leader of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Agyapong told some party members that at the time Dr. Bawumia made those comments, the exchange rate was GH4.20p to a dollar.

He said that since then, the cedi has lost a lot of value against the dollar, going from GH4 to a whopping GH15.

"The exchange rate will show you up when your fundamentals are weak. At the time you said that, the exchange was GH4.20p. On Friday, one dollar was worth GH15.00.

"Again, what do you want to tell the people of Ghana? Let me tell you, I'm being honest with you. I'm saying all of these things because... "From March to August of this year, I lost $12 million because of the exchange rate," Kennedy Agyapong said in a viral audio clip that GhanaWeb has.

Kennedy Agyapong is one of the most important people trying to replace President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as the head of the NPP before the General Elections in 2024.
