A police inspector named Ahmed Twumasi, also known as "Tycoon," allegedly murdered his girlfriend Victoria Dapaah at Dufie Towers in Kumasi. He reportedly told a friend that he was going to commit suicide and asked them not to reveal what he had done. After shooting Dapaah several times on the evening of April 20, 2023, Twumasi fled the scene. He later called a family member to confess to the crime and promised to end his own life.
When the police began searching for him, there were fears that he might have taken his own life because of his confession. However, on Sunday evening, April 23, 2023, the Ghana Police Service arrested Twumasi in Sekyere, near Effiduase in the Ashanti Region, following a religious investigation.
In a statement, the police announced that the suspect had been on the run since the shooting incident and that he is now in custody and will be brought before the court to face justice.
Twumasi and Dapaah had been in a romantic relationship, but Dapaah's attempts to break up with him reportedly led to her killing.
