How my son bought lands, cars and built rental property while I worked in Saudi Arabia

Sun, 11 Dec 2022 Source: Club Mate

Alice got pregnant when she was young, so she didn't finish class 8. Since she was still young, her mother helped her care for her baby. She had another child years later, even though she wasn't married. Alice got a job in Nairobi so she could feed her kids. She left her kids with her mother in the village while she worked in Nairobi.

She was lucky that she could do different kinds of work so she could have a good life. During one of her busy days, she ran into a friend who was going to Saudi Arabia. Alice told her friend that she would also like to work there, and the two went on their way. After six months, her friend called. Alice got her papers in order, and she got a chance to go to Saudi Arabia.

Her job was to look after an old lady. Unfortunately, they didn't speak the same language, so life was hard for her. "Sometimes the old woman would yell at me in Arabic, and I had no idea what she was saying." She goes on. She told her friends in Saudi Arabia about her troubles, and they were able to find her a new job.

When she went to throw trash in the bins outside the gate one morning, she got away. Alice started working after her friends found her a job. Alice says that she worked in seven different houses. Every day, a new house. She could also let other Kenyans stay in her house for a certain price. She also helped other Kenyans get jobs for a price.

During this time, she sent money back to her older son in Kenya. Her older brother put the money to good use. First, he spent more than a million dollars on a plot of land in Githurai for her mother. He bought a car later and used it as a taxi. Still, she built rental homes on the same piece of land while her mother was still in Saudi Arabia.

"My son always came to me first when he needed money from my bank account," Alice says. Her son took care of their high school-aged brother who was the youngest. He also built her mother a house.

Later, her son bought her mother a second plot. After ten years, when her mother had reached her goals, she came back. There was still money in her bank account. First, she bought two cars for herself and a tuk-tuk for work. She also started taking care of about 600 chickens on her Githurai plot.

She also hopes to buy her sons another piece of land soon. Alice tells people to always save what they have, no matter how small. People who work in Saudi Arabia should also send money to the most trusted person in Kenya. And if someone can't be trusted, they can put their money in Mpesa.

Alice comes to the conclusion that you need God's help to work in Saudi Arabia. "You work day and night without stopping. At times you don't even sleep." She says the end.
