I Have Not Been Arrested - Ex Black Starlets Keeper Owusu Banahene

Former Ghana and Asante Kotoko goalkeeper, Maxwell Owusu Banahene, wants to make it clear that he is not the person who has been arrested for fraud. He has discovered that someone has been pretending to be him and using his name to deceive people by promising to assist them in obtaining visas for international travel.

Banahene revealed in an interview with Peace FM that he became aware of this imposter approximately eight years ago, although he has never personally met him. He stressed that he is not the only person named Owusu Banahene, so it is possible for others to impersonate him.

The confusion arises because of the shared name, leading to mistaken accusations against him. Banahene expressed his frustration at facing backlash from people who mistake him for the fraudulent individual. To counter these accusations, he has invited individuals who falsely accused him to meet him in person, only for them to fail in identifying him among his teammates.

Banahene has even gone to the extent of showing pictures of himself with other players, such as Michael Essien, from 1997 to prove his innocence. He has also traveled to Yeji to demonstrate to the locals that he is not the person involved in the fraudulent activities. Despite his efforts, he continues to face challenges and fears that someone might attack him due to mistaken identity.
