I Hope The Earthquake In Turkey Doesn't Affect Ghana Like The War In Ukraine - Yaa Pono

Ghanaian rapper Kojo Ansah Asare, also known as Yaa Pono or Ponobiom, hopes Ghanaian politicians won't blame the recent earthquake in Turkey for the country's poor economy.

The 'Yard' singer asked if the earthquake in Turkey would hurt Ghana's economy as much as the war between Russia and Ukraine.

In a tweet on 8 February, which was picked up by this site, the famous rapper wrote: I hope the Turkey issue doesn't hurt Ghana's economy like it did Ukraine.

In his words: “I Dey hope say the Turkey issue no go affect the Ghana economy like Ukraine.”

His claim comes after government officials repeatedly said the war between Russia and Ukraine was to blame for the country's economic downturn.

Speaking at the 77th UN General Assembly on 13 September 2022, President Akufo Addo complained that the bullets and bombs of the war had hurt the pockets of Ghanaians.

"While we were trying to deal with these economic problems, Russia's invasion of Ukraine came out of nowhere and made things worse. Not only are we shocked to see cities and towns in Europe being deliberately destroyed in 2022, but this war is directly affecting us in Africa.

"Every bullet, every bomb, every shell that hits a target in Ukraine hurts our pockets and our economies in Africa," the president said.
