The former Environment Minister, Prof Frimpong Boateng, recently submitted a report to the presidency detailing the frustration he faced while trying to combat illegal mining, locally known as ‘galamsey’. The report included names of government officials who he believed were hindering his efforts, and Information Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah was one of them. In response, Mr. Nkrumah expressed his disappointment and denied any involvement in illegal mining activities.

In a letter to Prof Boateng, Mr. Nkrumah requested that he be left out of any personal fights and emphasized that he has always had great respect for the former Minister. He also stated that he had to respond to the false allegations made against him in the report to avoid people forming judgments based on inaccurate information.

According to Mr. Nkrumah, Prof Boateng mentioned him in three instances in the 36-page report. It is disappointing to see government officials being accused of hindering efforts to tackle illegal mining, which is a significant problem in Ghana. It is important that all stakeholders work together to combat this issue and protect the environment for future generations.
