The Nkusukum Traditional Council appointed the Ghanaian and British citizen, who was born in Nigeria, as Development Chief.

He did, however, lose his balance while being carried around during rituals to get to know his subjects, as seen in a viral video of the incident.

According to Akan custom, it is unlucky for a chief to fall off a palanquin because it portends his death, a tragic event, or a quick end to his rule.

This has spurred discussions on how Davis Mac Lyalla has been rejected by the gods because of his work as an LGBTQ activist.

The new head responded by saying he doesn't care about the fuss and will keep fighting for the rights of all people, regardless of their sexual orientation.

"I will stand up for what I believe until the very end, no matter the cost. I'm not a hypocrite, and I'm not going to start now. You don't have to agree with me, but you do have to respect what I think. That is the situation.

He claims that the dysfunctional and rising homophobia of the anti-LGBTQ community was the reason he came out as gay activist.

He stated in an interview with Adom News that he supports human rights and that nothing will stop him from living according to his convictions.

He answered that his ability to function as a chief is unaffected by his sexual orientation.

Some subjects, however, have voiced their displeasure with the traditional council for appointing a gay activist as chief.
