I joined army to escape pressure to marry — Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari has said that he joined the Nigerian army, where he retired as a Major General, to avoid the pressure to get married.

After opening two roads in Katsina state, the President went to see the Emir of Daura, Faruk Faruk. He told Faruk Faruk about this.

Femi Adesina, an aide to the president, also said that during the visit, Buhari talked about the years of fighting in the Nigerian Civil War and some of the problems he has faced in his own life.

The sentence said;

"President Buhari said that he got his first job right after school. He was in charge of a co-op in Daura, but he had to leave and join the army because people wanted him to get married.

"I explained to Governor Aminu Masari why I left Daura to join the army. God had planned it that way. We get to make choices in life, but in the end, God decides our fate.

"I was on the front lines of the Civil War and saw how many people died. Some fell right beside me. God kept me.

"Many bridges were blown up both before we got there and after we crossed them. When I got to some places, I saw the dead bodies of people I was fighting with. Only God's grace keeps me alive.

"God gave me this chance to serve the country. Nigeria is known all over the world for having a lot of different religions and cultures.

"We are also known because we have millions of people living here. For the President of Nigeria to come from Daura at this time shows God's grace and mercy."

Buhari also promised the emirate that after he leaves office on May 29, 2023, he will go back to Daura and live there.
