I regret leaving behind my business, I paid GH¢15K to a travel agent - Greece-based Ghanaian

Ghanaian lady named Veronica, who now resides in Greece, has expressed regret for leaving her business behind to travel to Turkey and then across the Mediterranean Sea to Greece.

In an interview with Daily Hustle Worldwide, Madam Veronica revealed that she paid GHS15,000 to a travel agent who told her that she could easily get to Germany from Turkey. But this was a lie. To cross the Mediterranean Sea to Greece, Veronica and three others took great risks.

The agent told me that Turkey was part of Europe while I was pregnant. So I thought I would get documents there after giving birth. When I arrived and everyone had already left for Greece, I realised that it had been a deception.

When I tried to cross the sea, I was detained twice. I spent two months behind bars. It took me three attempts to finally get to Greece. 35 people who had just crossed the sea died on the way. We came across inflatable boat on the way," she said.

According to Veronica, many foreigners in Greece are stranded, unable to find work or leave the country. She claims that the Greeks do not tolerate immigrants and do not give them work permits.

"Many Ghanaians choose to walk to Europe. More than 30 years have passed since the last of them went. They have not been able to travel to Europe or visit Ghana. They can't support you because their jobs are essentially at subsistence level," she continued.
