In a heartbreaking court appearance, Inspector Ahmed Twumasi, a police officer accused of fatally shooting his 26-year-old girlfriend, Victoria Dapaah, also known as Maadwoa, in Adum, Kumasi, on April 20, 2023, claimed that he did not intend to kill her.
The married law enforcement officer, nicknamed Tycoon, allegedly shot her five times in the chest and abdomen after demanding a refund of GHȼ5,000 he had allegedly given her.
During his first court appearance on April 25, the prosecution led by ACP Kofi Blagodzi presented the case and accused Twumasi of murder. The Presiding Magistrate, His Worship Buabin Quansah, asked Twumasi if he had anything to say, and the accused removed his facemask and tearfully told the court that he did not intend to kill his mistress. The court remanded Twumasi into police custody at the request of the prosecution to allow for further investigation.
The court premises were fraught with tension as the family members and loved ones of the deceased were eager to seek justice for Victoria's untimely death. Despite the difficult circumstances, the court proceedings were conducted in a professional and respectful manner.
